My daughter is taking over the blog today to share 5 fantasy books series for kids 11+. She’s always had her nose in a book, from Magic Tree House to Babysitters Club to whatever she’s reading now. I knew some moms who would read books before their kids in order to vet the content, but I couldn’t even attempt to keep up with her. So, we had discussions about what she was reading, and she set boundaries and sought out books that didn’t contain explicit content.
Since it’s hard to know what’s between the covers of a book, I asked her to share some recommendations for fantasy books that she would rate between G to PG. And she came back with five whole series. So, for the book lover in your family or friend circle, or a gift for one of your kids or their friends, check out the five fantasy series she recommends below. (And of course check the book content according to your own standards.)
Hi! I’m Sadie. When I was younger I often struggled to find books that I could enjoy without worrying about them having explicit content. I liked to read longer books, particularly series, but I had a hard time finding series that fit this that were appropriate for me to read. I would often try books and then stop reading them because of the content. But eventually I found a number of series that I did love. These five series are all fantasy books. They are all clean and they are a great choice for anyone, from preteens to adults.
This series is about a young girl named Sophie who finds out that she is actually an elf. She gets introduced to the elf world, learns all about her new life and goes on all kinds of adventures with her friends. This series is 9 books and counting and a mix of action, fantasy, and a slight romance subplot.
This series focuses on twin brother and sister Connor and Alex, and their adventures in the land of fairytales. They fall into a storybook and find themselves in the land that fairytales come from, and go on a journey to find their way home. This series is 6 books, and it is fairytale inspired and fantasy.
This series takes place in a fairytale land, and focuses on a boy named Jack, and his journey with a “Princess” named May to help her save her grandma. The unlikely pair have to journey together to find her grandma, and run into lots of adventure and trouble along the way. This series is a trilogy. It’s a fantasy, fairytale inspired book with a light romance subplot.
This series is set during the medieval age, in a world where dragons exist. It focuses on a girl named Creel and her journey to become a successful seamstress. However she accidentally befriends a dragon, and ends up living a life of adventure instead of one of a boring seamstress. This series is a Trilogy and it is fantasy, adventure, and has a romance subplot as well.
This series takes place in the world of fairytale characters, and it focuses on Gilly, a young misfit who gets sent to a magical fairy tale reform school. She ends up on many adventures, and along with her friends fights to protect and save her school. This series is 6 books, and it is a mix of adventure, action, fantasy, fairy tales, and friends.
I hope you all enjoy these books as much as I did and still do. It’s getting harder to find good books with PG content, so I’m glad that I could share some of my own childhood favorites and recommendations. And if there are other genres that you would like to hear about, let me know so that I can take over the blog again in the future.

My daughter, now 29, loved reading the Warriors series when she was in the tween years. I think those would probably be PG too. She is a cat lover, so this was a good fit for her! The ones you shared look like ones she’d have read, especially Dragon Slippers.
